What do we mean by “look and feel better?”
Do you need or are you receiving orthodontic treatment? OMBRE is part of a team that helps prevent orthodontic relapse – we keep you looking better! By treating incorrect tongue resting posture and swallow patterns such as tongue thrust, we prevent your tongue from pushing and moving your teeth. This is a leading cause of orthodontic relapse.
By improving nasal breathing, OMBRE helps decrease the amount of air and bacteria entering your mouth, which helps prevent tooth decay, dry mouth and gum disease.
A number of OMBRE exercises address proper alignment, of your head, neck and shoulders. Ultimately improving forward head posture, commonly associated with orofacial myofunctional disorders. People may notice a positive change in how you look.
When used inappropriately, muscles in your face and neck often sag and don’t look toned. The OMBRE program targets and develops the orofacial muscles…the same muscles that define a jawline and give the appearance of high cheek bones. We call it the “OMBRE facelift.”
One of the leading causes of snoring, sleep apnea and other sleep problems is improper tongue function. OMBRE works by re-educating where your tongue should go during times of rest (we call it oral resting posture). Once you have made these placements habitual, you may notice a significant improvement in your overall sleep patterns – and you should feel more rested and better each morning.
OMBRE exercises target dysfunctional breathing, chewing, and swallowing; which have been associated with sleep disorders, jaw pain, and head and neck pain and tension. If you are also experiencing poor sleep patterns, your overall pain may be decreased due to better oxygenation of your body via better sleep and nasal breathing. If you’re experiencing jaw pain, your OMBRE program will include exercises targeting the disc in the temporomandibular (jaw) joint, jaw stability, oral resting posture, and chewing and swallowing functions. Some patients find neck and head tension including headaches and migraines also improve as they progress in the OMBRE program.
Sleep deprivation and mouth breathing negatively affect mood. By correcting nighttime breathing habits, you may experience an improvement in general low moods.
One of your nose’s primary functions is to filter the air we breathe. Mouth breathers tend to get sick more often, because they are not benefitting from your body’s natural air filter. OMBRE promotes better health by re-teaching your body to breathe through your nose. Let’s get all technical for a second – when you breathe through your nose, your sinuses create nitric oxide. Nitric oxide has been proven to dilate the walls of your blood vessels, thereby oxygenating your blood up to 15% more than when you mouth breathe. More oxygen in your blood translates to better oxygenated organs, which means that your heart doesn’t have to work so hard, which means that you feel better.
OMT has been recommended as post-operative therapy for tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy patients. OMBRE helps re-teach your brain where to place your tongue once these obstructions have been removed, to help you feel better and to improve pre-operative dysfunction.
